SEED Inc. – Students for Educational and Economic Development, the parent organization of CwB was established in 2000. SEED Inc. has engaged in vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change. Consequently, SEED Inc. publishes unapologetic content for Black People. SEED Inc. is committed to teaching students how to become economically independent and institutionally sovereign. SEED Inc. believes that children from all walks of life have the potential for genius if that innate spark is nurtured through education. Therefore, we envision an educational system that prepares all students to engage in advanced scholarship according to their interests, participate in the local economy, and institute best practices in holistic community development wherever they may live. SEED Inc. was incorporated by Scott and Erica Muhammad in Alabama in 2010. They have run organic agriculture camps for children since 2001 in Illinois and Alabama. SEED Inc. is proud to have affiliates, members and supporters in Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, Massachusetts, Michigan and Rhode Island.
CwB is a mission-driven program that will serve Black people via information about this epidemic relevant to marginalized communities that have typically been left out of the wellness conversation. Currently, there are over 700,000 COVID deaths. Approximately, one half are Black, Indigenous, Latinx and Asian people. While Black people constitute approximately 13% of these deaths, we represent ONLY 13% the total U.S. population of 328 million.
CwB creates and provides a space for inclusivity and accessibility about COVID related issues facing our community. We will attempt to break down scientific news and concepts that will hopefully de-stigmatize, demystify and uncomplicate topics, i.e. custom tailored advocacy. Black people are vulnerable to sophisticated lies, rumors, disinformation, misinformation, fear, ignorance and our shared trauma. However, when we don’t trust institutions, we turn elsewhere to be informed and will become vulnerable to deception and manipulation. We’ll go online for information that has been filtered in both political and personal ways. Our people need to slow down and not consume every shred of news regarding the pandemic, unless it is documented and verified. We gather documented, verifiable evidence for Black people. We will offer nuanced perspectives and topics, and alternative narratives that get to the root of what it’s like to be Black, be affected by, infected with and recover from COVID in numerous areas of activity.
CwB will offer explanation, support and answers in plain spoken language. We’ll offer the option to Black people to make rational decisions rather than emotional ones or those based on hearsay regarding COVID, by offering information and news we feel should be consumed, considered, shared, discussed and acted upon.
